El negocio de Google depende en gran medida de la publicidad en línea, por ello buscan cómo frenar el crecimiento de herramientas que bloquean anuncios y de paso tener mayor control sin afectar su principal negocio. A mediados de abril surgía la noticia de que Google estaba por anunciar su propia herramienta de bloqueo de anuncios que estaría incorporada de forma nativa en Chrome, desde entonces no se volvió a saber nada del asunto, hasta ahora.
Sí, Google quiere ser juez y parte en la publicidad online, por ello están siendo muy cautelosos en cómo venden esta nueva característica que finalmente hoy ha sido confirmada. Para empezar no la llaman bloqueador sino ‘filtro’, donde su tarea principal será “eliminar anuncios molestos que puedan afectar la experiencia de navegación”.
Filtrado de anuncios molestos en Chrome
Sridhar Ramaswamy, vicepresidente senior de anuncios y comercio para Google, explica que esta nueva herramienta llegará en una próxima actualización de Chrome durante 2018, la cual llega a complementar las actuales funciones del navegador como el bloqueador de ventanas emergentes o los avisos de malware o phishing.
En los próximos días los propietarios de sitios web tendrán a su disposición el llamado ‘Informe de experiencia de anuncios’, donde podrán saber qué tipo de anuncios están clasificados como ‘molestos’ en sus sitios, esto con el fin de modificarlos cuanto antes para así evitar bloqueos por parte de Chrome. Según Google, aquí se explicará a detalle cada uno de los anuncios marcados como ‘inapropiados’ y se darán consejos para modificarlos, los editores tendrán al menos seis meses para ajustarse a las nuevas reglas.
Según WSJ, desde hace unas semanas Google se ha puesto en contacto con editores, agencias y anunciantes para informarles los detalles de su nuevo filtro de anuncios. Dentro de esta información se especifica que Google se está basando en el más reciente estudio de la ‘Coalición para Mejores Anuncios’, un grupo integrado por Procter & Gamble, Unilever, WPP’s GroupM, Facebook, Thomson Reuters, The Washington Post, Interactive Advertising Bureau, la Asociación de Anunciantes Nacionales, así como la misma Google.
Dicha colación realizó una encuesta entre 25.000 participantes en Estados Unidos y Europa, esto para preguntarles acerca de los formatos de anuncios más molestos que se han encontrado al navegar en internet. El resultado fueron 104 experiencias publicitarias donde se incluyen pop-ups, anuncios que parpadean rápidamente o que cambian de color, anuncios de vídeo con reproducción automática, aquellos con sonido, así como anuncios que te hacen esperar 10 segundos para seguir viendo el contenido de la página, entre otros.
Todos estos anuncios serán bloqueados de forma automática por Chrome, tanto en escritorio como en móvil, a inicios de 2018, y en caso de que un sitio tenga más del 80% de estos anuncios se procederá a bloquear toda la página. Según Google, este tipo de experiencias han provocado el crecimiento de herramientas como AdBlock, que según un estudio de 2015 están instalados en el 18% de los ordenadores de todo el mundo, cifra que en los Estados Unidos ya llega al 26%.
Google, quien posee el 60% de participaron con Chrome y para quien la publicidad online representa el 88% de sus ingresos, quiere ser el salvador de internet al impedir que las herramientas de terceros que bloquean anuncios sigan creciendo, ya que esto significa un peligro para anunciantes y editores que basan gran parte de su negocio en este tipo de publicidad. Además de que quieren impedir que este tendencia empiece a crecer en el móvil, donde apenas el 1% tiene instalado un bloqueador de anuncios.
Bloquear anuncios bajo las reglas de Google
Pero esto no es todo, junto a este llamado ‘filtro de anuncios molestos’, Google estará lanzando una plataforma llamada ‘Opciones de financiación’, donde los propietarios de sitios web se podrán inscribir para bloquear el acceso a sus contenidos a aquellos usuarios que tengan instalado un bloqueador de otra compañía. Aquí los usuarios tendrán que elegir entre desactivar dicho bloqueador para tener acceso a la web con anuncios o bien, pagar una cantidad para acceder al sitio sin ningún tipo de anuncios.
Esta última opción se podrá pagar por medio de una cuenta de Google Play y parte del dinero será para el sitio, quien podrá ofrecer una experiencia sin anuncios a sus usuarios a través de esta nueva plataforma de Google. Vamos, algo muy similar a una suscripción donde aún se desconocen los detalles acerca del precio, si se trata de un único pago o será de forma periódica, así como el porcentaje que recibirán los editores.
Este último movimiento es el más claro ataque en contra de los bloqueadores de anuncios de terceros, ya que Google será capaz de controlar su uso al poner restricciones pero a mismo tiempo dando opciones. Sin duda es algo donde será interesante ver la reacción de los usuarios.
